People aren't really getting covid going to stores. They're getting it from indoor, private activities - which the mask mandates can't do anything about.
I know many people who will modify their private behavior (and not have guests unmasked inside) based on the mandate. Most people are rule followers.
Really? I know just as many who won't.

Most ppl in the dc area are rabid rule followers
Which is such a tiny population in the grand scheme of the country

I don’t think “zero covid” is achievable at this point (if it ever was). Hospitals aren’t being overrun. Deaths aren’t high. So what’s the goal here?
I can't believer there are still people out there that think this has anything to do with public health.

Yes, but they can still catch it because the Detla produces 1,000x as much virus, be asymptomatic, and give it to anti-vax folks! We have to think of the anti-vaxers and live our lives with special protections for them! Also, COVID is here to stay. It's not going to be eliminated from the planet. At some point we have to live our lives like normal. We can't act like this is a plague when 99.7% of deaths are the unvaccinated.
My 10 year old is not anti-vax.
NP. YOUR TEN YEAR OLD IS NOT AT RISK FROM COVID. What data are you people looking at that makes you think covid is any kind of threat to kids? I don’t mean panicky anecdotes or viral Twitter threads or unfounded speculation about “long covid”. I mean reliable data on American kids that shows this virus is uniquely dangerous to them and worth disrupting their lives for, in a way that isn’t true of RSV, the flu, the common cold, bronchitis, norovirus, and all the other viral diseases kids get that never caused us to fully shut down schools for 2 years.
"reliable data on American kids"
What the hell is wrong with you that you think the data has to be on American kids?
Long-covid isn't "long-covid" and unknowns about long-covid are not "unfounded speculations about long-covid."
I'm curious to hear what 'viral Twitter threads' you are so contemptuous about. The kid covid tweets reported on this forum just repeated the latest public health numbers, along with statements of "up this many %" "increased this many-fold"
Your unrelenting all-caps echo dismissing out of hand reasonable concerns is unreasonable.
If you’re really that concerned about “long covid,” keep your kid home. Masks aren’t going to protect him.
Home? You're not sending me to my basement? Gee thanks!
Anyways. Yay Bowser.
