Delta variant has a viral load 1260 times greater than the original variant.

Hey, Delta variant poster: Could you maybe start a new thread and discuss all your issues, versus just injecting what seems like non-sequiter freak-outs everywhere? Or go to the Health and Medicine forum and discuss your concerns there? Maybe try to connect what you are talking about to the actual thread you are on?

NP: but also isn’t this thread about pulling out of DCPS? There’s a 17 page thread currently on travel policy

DP. Some citations for the claims would also be nice.

Because they have finally realized what other countries and other areas of the US knew last year: Kids need to go to school. So they can only take reasonable precautions and not impose restrictions that make it impossible to open schools. I hope they don’t lose this insight.

Are you feeling superior? We aren’t taking the kids to baseball games or indoor dining either, but we will still go on Covid cautious travel whenever we want.

You only have to do 3 days, you know. You don't need to be EXTRA.

What does being EXTRA mean? I do care if my kids miss ANY extra days of school after this past year for no good reason at all.

You can just come back 3 days before school. You don't need to do 10. The EXTRA 7 days aren't even required under the policy.

If not clear: I'm referencing the "We'll return from our trip 10 days before" person, not the "covid cautious" traveller.

Ah, now I understand your post. I was confused because you responded to me.

Yeah, my bad. Sorry.

I can’t come back 3 days before school if I’m visiting family for Thanksgiving.

Listen, if we did anything risky, such as flying and spending extended amounts of time at airports, or going to an area with low vaccination rates, or to a big event with lots of people of unknown vaccination status, we would follow the rule. But not when we drive somewhere to visit vaccinated relatives in an area similar to DC in terms of cases and vaccinations. And anyone who feels superior for blindly following this rule has an understanding of morality that I am not striving to emulate.

I'm the "it's only 3 days" person and I was just making fun of the rule-follower for not even following the rule correctly.

I agree with you.

I'd also like to see what happens with the unvaccinated teachers/staff. Surely they won't lie (LOL).

I think it is because none of these safety measures (besides perhaps masks) are feasible at an overcrowded Middle School like Deal. Which is probably why they didn't open last year. But then parents revolted. And the only way they can open is if they largely disregard the safety measures. So now DCPS is giving them license to do so. And we'll see what happens. I would not want to have a 6th grader right now.

Also, temperature checks take 3 seconds and could help catch some of the symptomatic cases. Why wouldn’t they do that?

OP,

I hope you understand that people would rather lie about travel than pull their kids out of a free system and be forced to find alternative options.
