Wild boar — very gamey and strong taste.
Kidneys — unpleasant texture and taste
Mutton — did not care for it

Rat (cooked but whole, on a skewer)

Goat brain, scraped off the skull, cooked over a fire

Both in very rural west Africa

Bite on roach while sleep. Luckily I woke up. I still hate that landlord to this day. Joseph!

Boiled cows tongue and blood sausage. Both were delicious btw.

Intentional: elephant milk

Unintentional: dog (they called it “like beef”)

A freshly killed octopus. It was still moving and the tentacle wrapped itself around the chopstick. The suction cups stuck the the roof of my mouth and I had to pry it off with my tongue. It was a business dinner in Seoul. I love octopuses and still feel incredibly guilty for eating it.

Unintentionally, some kind of toffee made of cow blood. My host mom in Russia gave it to me, and I thought it was a piece of candy. It had the look and texture of a Tootsie Roll, but tasted kind of metallic. I didn't think to ask what it was until after I ate it, at which point my host sister said it was a vitamin made of blood. I didn't ask any further questions, but wanted to throw up immediately.

Intentionally, liver stew (tame compared to some of the dishes here, I know) - also made by my host mom.

I’m a very adventurous eater (Asian family) so i like a lot of weird foods (jellyfish, chitlins, giblets, weird seafoods bits, etc).

My least favorites from my forced “try everything once” childhood are probably: lung (gross texture) and congealed blood (like silken tofu but brown coppery and eww). I also am not a huge fan of sea urchin, fish bladder or bitter melon.

Sheep kidneys in steak and kidney pie! They literally taste like what piss smells like.
Black pudding- tastes like what it is- blood. Reminded me of when. I had bad nosebleeds as a kid.

And I had to choke this stuff down in front of my English and Irish aunties to be polite.

I should add I have had chitlins, scrapple and sweetbreads. I loved sweetbreads.

Eel is my daughter's favorite food!!! Don't you dare criticize Japanese grilled eel. It's delicious.

Escargot. Which wouldn't have been bad in and of itself, except that I was recovering from a horrible bout of food poisoning from bad shellfish the night before. So my stomach was still really touchy, all I really wanted was ice water and plain bread. But we were traveling, and checked in with a new family that afternoon, and they greeted us with a fancy meal with all of their delicacies, and my command of the language was not really good enough to explain why I wasn't eating. So I choked down a few snails to be polite. In retrospect, I'm sure they were absolutely delicious and I'm actually really sad that I couldn't appreciate them at the time.

Deep fried cod roe. It came as part of a frito variado, which is a bunch of deep fried seafood, which the waiter dumped ceremonially upon a paper table cloth for the group.

I don't like seafood, so when I saw this nondescript brown lump in the pile of tentacles and fish parts that looked a lot like a hushpuppy, I took a big bite. Instead of sweet crunchy mild dough, it was this horrible bright yellow pungent wasabi-tasting thing. When I found out it was fish eggs...even worse.
