I’ve always loved the name Nina. The most beautiful girl in our school was a Christina who went by Nina so it has a positive association for me.

I’m a Russian Nina and have always loved my name! Do it, OP. I get positive reactions to my name all the time. The on,y annoying thing is the occasional “Nye-nah” instead of “Nee-nah”. But NBD.

I like it but I prefer Mira or Mina

I had a friend named Nina who passed way too soon over 25 years ago, she was wonderful.

It is my name and honestly I have never liked it that much. I am not sure why but never really did. There were definitely "Where are the Pinta and Santa Maria?" jokes growing up. There was never ever anything that came with my name on it. My family calls me Neen but no one else does.

Positive association. I'm picturing the kind loving nurse that sang to my incoherent elderly father during his long stay in the hospital.

Interesting that so many people are talking about it working in English or Spanish. When I hear Nina I think Russian.

It’s not a nickname and isn’t close to “girl”.

Ella means “she” in Spanish and people use it as a formal full name every day.

Start your own thread abour Ella. Would you name your daughter girl? I wouldn't and I wouldn't name her She " Ella" either.

Just my opinion which was asked!

I don't know that every Spanish speaker would find it odd, but I, personally, do think it's a little odd for this reason too. Just a little bit.

My great aunt was named Nina, but it was pronounced NYE-NAH. So I always get confused on how to say it. But I love NEE-Nah

I named my DD Malia (before Obama was elected!), and even though I thought it was obvious how to pronounce it, she gets a lot of people saying it wrong.

I think it is a pretty name and will become more popular.

Nina (nini) in High School Musical on Disney and Nina in The Heights are both good role models for the name.

It's a good one. It's not just that it works in English and Spanish -- it's also really easy to pronounce in many languages, which can be really helpful. I loooove my DD's name but it's extremely Anglo and we have found that non-native English speakers have a hard time with it.
