Subject: 50th birthday yesterday- no gifts
I always say what I want. There’s no point in being upset. Treat yourself like the Queen you are. My DH is awful at this stuff so I say what I want (nyc family weekend prepabdemic) for big birthday and we do it. Or minor birthday nice dinner flowers and card is fine

Sorry, but I don't have patience for those who "suffer" unnecessarily in silence.
An adult spouse should not need to be told that a birthday, particularly a milestone birthday, is a gift giving occasion and plan accordingly. Phone calendars and reminders exist. It is the same date every year. No longer any need to brave the mall -- all it takes is the click of a button. Stop making excuses for jackasses.
But that is who she married. So you think that wishing people did what they should is a better solution than saying out loud that they have hurt/disappointed her.
Not sure how suffering in silence gets her anywhere different.
