There is a big urban/rural divide in this country. I have a kid at a liberal SLAC in a rural area purple state and he has friends that were harassed after the election. And we have ongoing concerns about potential violence. Even in VA, kids going to schools in rural areas of ROVA are going to have a lot of Trumpers.
No outside of VA considers VA anything other than the south, but I think people strongly underestimate the number of people still flying Trump flags in New Jersey and New York.
