Go by energy and demeanor, if there are no other red flags. I can't really tell from your post which one resonated with you better personally. Also, how did they each react with your kid(s)?

With our first nanny, we interviewed several with varying degrees of experience. The youngest, least experienced one just brought a wave of calm and love with her when she picked up DD. She worked for us for 7 years. We hired our second based on her dynamic with the kids as well.

#2. I am currently employing someone similar to #1. The superconfidence thing gets old really quickly. Look, it really depends on whom you click better with. I found the hard way that superconfidence has a flip side: not liking being corrected, not interested in following instructions, and at time petulance. We are first time parents, but it's our kid and our money... The kicker is that my husband is paranoid about Covid and in general doesn't want the hassle of looking for a new nanny, interviewing and training, that the fact that she is not horrible is good enough for him. I am stuck. Don't be me. Find someone you click with and who can follow directions.

Nanny 1. She is simply a better candidate.

We started with a younger nanny and never again. Older, established, no drama is definitely so much better.

That’s a red flag to me- she thinks she’s doing you a favor she’s so great. The other one is perhaps so certain of her skills that she’s not going to listen to what you want (I know better..). The fact that 2 has had more gigs is not a red flag to me. She sounds like exactly what I’d choose. I always skewed younger with my nannies because then they’d do things exactly as I wanted (not what THEY think is best) and also they have more energy and fun. I didn’t want another parent, but a fantastic sitter. I don’t know if that helps, just my take.

100% agree. Our nanny like number 1 was very set in her ways and made decisions contrary to what she knew we wanted because she had always made them that way. Our younger nanny has much more flexibility and has been a breath of fresh air.

OP, it’s clear from your posts that you like number 2 better. Go with your gut.
