I’m a 35 year old woman and would have no idea how to clean that, or know that it was rafia unless someone told me. In the 4th grade I made a rafia basket in art class and I remember the dye coming off on my hands, so, assuming someone told me it was rafia, I would know to be careful of getting it wet. But if I can’t get it wet, how do I clean it? Seems like there should be a glass top or a tray top or something that can be cleaned and used as a coffee table.

Check with furniture restoration services, I assume it needs dye or stain of some sort, and that it will probably look worse before it looks better. Then, I’d look for ways to protect it (sealant, glass, etc).
