Isn’t NVSL just for fun? Why would it dominate your time?

Meets twice a week plus practice everyday. It's fun but it does take over...

Right. It’s a quick season but very intense. I enjoy most of the volunteering and parent socializing, but the real fun is for the kids.

Wow. That’s actually huge. That rowing title would be the first Varsity 8 state championship boat in Wakefield HS history. Hope the school puts a banner up.

So much for Yorktown being overrated.

Yorktown had nothing to do with it.

Great school 6

She did not. Only AAC and Yorktown High School.

Done and done.

It’s OP who suggested that this young woman’s success in the pool somehow validates Yorktown and should insulate the school from being accurately described in other threads as a high school that consistently under-performs for a school with its wealthy demographics.

For those interested in Torri, not just fighting over Yorktown, she’s in the finals for the 200 IM after placing 6th in the semis last night. Her fly was phenomenal but she was caught by the end of the backstroke. Unlikely she will earn a spot but three other events to go!

Yes, the WaPo story noted that her strength coach is also her swim coach at Yorktown. AAC is private swim through the county. It's a good upbeat story for YHS and Arlington in general.

Strength coach - during the pandemic when she wasn't able to train in pools. Yes, so he was her swim coach for the YHS swim team. I'm sure she's had additional outside YHS training. It's a testament to the athlete and her swim coaches - whoever and wherever they are. It is not a testament to Yorktown HS.

Elite swimmers' success is developed by their private club coaches and NOT high schools.

Michael Phelps attended Towson High School which did not even have a swim team when he went there.
