Thank you everyone whose commented - you all bring up points I’ve thought of myself and am considering. We’re definitely are in a more “nickname” generation, aren’t we?

One of the big things is that so few people know Daisy is a nickname for Margaret, and I don’t like that they start with different letters. None of the other “Margaret” nicknames appeal to me either...

I’m pretty strongly leaning towards using Daisy as a standalone name, I love the poster who said it’s a good thing to have a happy association with a name I love that!

Why DOES Margaret have so many nicknames? And some are so random...Peg?? Daisy?? I have a Molly (JUST Molly, not nn for Margaret) so I've heard it all before.

Seriously, it’s a beautiful name. Clearly we love it and she’s a perfect Daisy.

I love it! Of course it will “age well”. Daisy has aged well for centuries.

My DH's very proper Austrian aunt, who is married to a Swiss diplomat and is extremely adult and comme il faut, has always gone by Daisy. I don't even remember what her given name is. It's fine for an adult.

For some I think it would be a fine name.

For me, it doesn't pass the 'dog test'. I know too many people with dogs named Daisy

I would think of it as a flower name--- for Daisy, the flower, not as diminutive of Margaret and go for it. I understand the nickname as a hesitation but it's also stand alone as a flower

Daisy is perfectly fine. Maybe it’s a cultural thing, but I’d think of Daisy Bates, a real person and civil rights icon before I ever thought of Daisy Duke, a fictional character.

I'm someone who isn't into giving nicknames as given names. But this isn't just a nickname to me. Yes, it can be short for Margaret, but there is also a long history of flower names as given names. Rose, and Lily are other examples of names that can be nicknames (for Rosemary and Lillian) and names on their own, and Daisy fits that pattern to me. Eli, Luke, and Eve are other examples of legitimate full names that happen to be nicknames for other names as well.

This is a good point. I think for me it's the sound of the name, partly, and the negative association with flightly Daisy Buchanan (dizzy Daisy?). Also, I had a bunch of great grandmothers named Rose; it seems like a common old lady name to me, with a sternness to it. The only Daisys (Daisies) I've known were toddlers in Silver Spring.
