Why would someone host a party with no alcohol? We aren't big drinkers but don't be cheap.

OP that was rude of her, she should have consulted you on who and the number of people to begin with. At this point I would probably rent a hall or something. Especially if over 100 people are coming!

Have attended backyard weddings with these. They're fine.

I recently reserved a park space for an event. I believe that particular park's guidelines were that if the event had over 30 people, you were required to rent some kind of bathroom. But that was going from 0 bathrooms to 1, so you're probably fine.

I'd worry more about your rain or inclement weather plan. If it's beastly hot or stormy, people will be filling up your house anyway

Some good advice here -- I also have a 2.5 bath house and would not be enamored with the idea of people walking through my bedroom to use the toilet.

My kid, though? That's fine. Lock your master bedroom door, and use the kid's bathroom as backup. It's unlikely it will be needed that much.

Exactly. We’ve attended parties in Bethesda and Potomac and there are porta potties for the guests. No one bats an eye.

Moms and little kids will use the indoor bathroom. Dads and boys will pee in the port-a-potty.

I hate waiting for the only bathroom when I just need to pee. If you had a urinal or port-a-potty available for quick relief, that would be awesome. You get 50% of the crowd out of the indoor bathroom line.

Are you kidding? People will talk about your port a potty party for a long time. Are you in the DC area? Maybe this is common in other areas of the country but in my 25+ years in the DC area I have never been to a party with a port a potty that wasn't in a park or organized event.

It's not normal.

How long is the party? A 5-hour party with alcohol is very different from a 2-hour event.

I think the 1/2 bath would be fine, BUT I would 1) have your son's room cleaned and ready to divert a few people there is the line grows, and 2) quietly let any sensitive parties (nursing moms, older aunts, parents of really young kids who may not be able to hold it) know that your son's bathroom is available if there is a line.

I have had parties with almost 100 guests and never had a problem with the powder room having a line. If there was an issue - I would happily allow folks to use one of the kids bathrooms - just make sure it's clean!

Garage sink doubles as a urinal. Ask any man.
