Subject: BRYC ECNL (GIRLS)
The problems start at U10-U12. I can't imagine how you can mess up the player pool at the U9 year, so I won't include that.
BRYC U10-U11 is a sink or swim, survival of the fittest environment. Players who are already good, which come in limited numbers, succeed. The fringe or bubble players do not get the individual attention they need to make it to the next step, so they are told early on in one way or another that they are not part of the top group.
Since they are not part of the top group, what's the point for them, so they drop out of the elite program or they stop pushing to become significantly better, so what's the point.
What ends up happening by U12 is that the "top" pool of players they are left with is enough to put a decent starting lineup on the field, but as the subs come in, there's a drop off. Instead of having too much talent (hey we can only put 16 / 18 of you on the squad so you have to make your case), there are clearly A players and B players mixed together.
That leads to the nonsense with the ECNL and composite teams starting at U13. You have 2 teams, the top team should be a level above the second team, but they are close enough together to mix players. I'm not saying that's bad, but these days the players who make the difference are players with natural talent AND heavy technical training starting at U8. BRYC just doesn't have enough of those players to be competitive with the local ECNL teams which have raised their standard because demand is so high.

I just looked at the scores...they might not have won games but several ties and loss by 1 goal. They were better opponent to Mclean Pre-ECNL compared to those teams. You're right about Bernie....he drove the good players away.

I just looked at the scores...they might have lost all the games but several ties and loss by 1 goal. They were better opponent to Mclean Pre-ECNL compared to those teams. You're right about Bernie....he drove the good players away.

Wow, MCLN Girls Pre-ECNL/Green did not lose a single game in the same division. Top and bottom both in ECNL next season, that would be interesting.
The Mclean Girls Pre-ECNL team has about 3 top players that left BRYC two years back.

That is changing going forward as new age groups come in--no new parent-led-bridge-teams will be formed. So any 5 yo right now who ends up playing travel for BRYC in the future will do so through the academy.
