I am only mentioning because someone I went to school couldn’t use tampons without extreme pain and as it turned out she had an issue with blockage that was easily remedied with a minor procedure.
It's called a hymen. It's normal anatomy, not a "blockage."
Actually, unless the hymen is extremely rigid or thick, it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, I think girls tend to think it’s straight up into your body. It really goes at a 45 degree angle, so what helped me was someone telling me to aim toward my spine as I do it.
The smaller the better and with Vaseline might help too.
I didn’t know there was period swimwear but definitely use that if it exists!
Please do not put Vaseline in the vagina. It’s known to breed yeast, bacteria and cause infection. It’s ok topically but not inserted.
Would KY jelly be a better alternative?

I agree to try a different position. It's been decades since I've looked at the "instructions" that come in the box, but I remember them showing an illustration where the woman had one leg up on the toilet for insertion, and another with the woman sitting on the toilet for insertion. It also specified that when you take it out, to use the same position you used for insertion.

Double NO. I could never even get the thing (small size) inserted it was so big. Way more uncomfortable than a tiny tampon.
