Yeah, some groups of “friends” don’t play those games. There are parts of this world where you get shot for sleeping with an ex. It ain’t worth it. I’ve asked my ex several times to introduce me to a friend and he is always like, “nah.”

My brother lived in a group house and set up one of his roommates with a family friend. It didn’t work out and the other roommate said “she seemed pretty cool. Would it be okay if I asked her out?” The roommate who had dated her gave his blessing and it all worked out nicely. (Second roommate has been married to the woman for about 20 years. My family and the ex-boyfriend roommate were all at the wedding.) I think the key there was it was communicated early. Given that you don’t see this friend often and don’t need his permission I think I curtesy heads up of “hey, I wanted to let you know we matched and decided to try dating. We’re hitting it off and I wanted you to hear it directly from me” or something like that is reasonable. Also, it sounds like if you lose this friend in your life it’s not a big deal.

OP, just give your acquaintance/friend a head's up. You can even do it by text. Just tell him that you matched with her a while ago and you guys hung out and it seems like its getting serious. You wanted to tell him so he didn't hear it second hand or was surprised by the news.
