Some teams practice only twice a week, so to get in another day of training it's worth it.

Agree, no need to punch low.

Yes, we all know ODP does not hold the same weight as in years past. I realize most boys elite youth soccer athletes do not care about ODP and gravitate towards the DA (formerly) / MLS next / ECNL on a national level. However, choosing to be part of an ODP team and compete should be commended and appreciated.

It's something different. I agree not what it once was and doesn't have the same prestige. But like a 3v3 tournament or Beach tournament it gives kids who love to play and are good a different experience. New kids, coaches, competition.
Not a bad thing...money grab...a bit..but what isn't these days in soccer.
No need to be bitter about it, move on.

You are right about coaching, but there are definitely some good players who still do ODP. In fact, if you are a highly technical player, you stand out big time in ODP, because it is chock full of big, fast kids who aren't good ball handlers.

Maryland has published their nominations online. Others state ODPs may do the same if they were transparent. State ODPs are not known to be on objective and unbiased.

I don't think so. The tournament just ended Sunday, so probably will be a few days at least.

She loves competing. But as a parent who has to pay for all of it would be nice if they were more transparent about the process. If I knew there was no shot I may decide to spend my money somewhere else.


My son already got an invite to regional ID camp, but we're still going to the tournament, because that is what you should do. VA ODP was transparent about the process. They sent multiple emails this year stating that being there were no interstate friendlies this year, because of COVID, the regional ID selections would be more based by state coaches' opinions from training. Regional ID camp doesn't mean you made the regional team. These kids still have to get through that.



Was the invite personalized for your son? ie. "Dear John Doe, Congratulations, you've been selected to..." We received an email about being invited as well but it wasn't personalized for my DS and it looked like a generic email sent to all the boys. ie. "Congratulations, you have been selected to..." First time going through this so wanted to be sure. Thanks!
