I know a lovely, teenage Gail. She’s named for her grandmother.

My SIL gave her DD the traditional name of Kathryn by with nickname Kitty.

Suzanne or Susan or Susannah could be Sue, Suzie or just those full names.

I know a four-year-old Barbara but it's not my favorite name.

Susan is pretty. Go for it!

Sally and Penny are nicknames.

I know kids named: Nancy, Jessica, Mary, Alice, Ellen and Susana/Susy. Name your kid what you want! I never thought anything but “wow, that’s unusual for a kid these days” but that’s it. They’re all perfectly good names, they just don’t happen to be trendy right now.

They can be nicknames but they are not always. I know a Sally who is just Sally and a Penny who is just Penny!

Nancy was historically a nickname for Anne. But hardly anyone thinks of it as a nickname anymore.

I grew up in the sixties. Karen was the most popular name.My Karen friends are between 58 and 70.

Interestingly enough, the pejorative aspect of this moniker is directed at women in GenX 40s, 50s..not Baby Boomers, so it's a shame it was taken out of circulation, because Karens are rarely "Karens."

They should have used Heather or Stephanie. Karen is an older name.

I gave my kid a name that according to the interweb peaked in 1913 and even then was not very common.

My name is Sally and it is not a nickname.

Yours may not be, but traditionally (like 75 years ago), Sally was a nickname for Sarah.

My favorite woman on the planet is named Susan/Susy so I am super partial to the name. It’s absolutely going to made a strong comeback in a few years so you’ll be ahead of the trend.

I love that name!

Penelope is SUPER trendy right now - my 5 year old has a Penelope and a Penny in her class of 15 kids.
