I so agree.
Ithaca, NY. It’s so beautiful there. The air is different, I don’t know how to explain it. Maybe it’s the negative ions from all the moving water everywhere. It’s bliss.

Went there with zero expectations. Was absolutely charmed by the transit trains that go through the tunnels and mountains, walking across all the bridges, taking the funicular railway up to Mount Washington, all the hills and row houses and old mansions. All the office workers dressed in yellow and black eating lunch in that circular plaza downtown. Uniquely hearty food (French fries on a sandwich? yes please!) Also a really superb airport.
NP but Pittsburgh also has a really great children's museum, kids loved going up the Incline, and we enjoyed the Phipps Conservatory (also a great outdoor children's area). And some really good breweries and restaurants.

Surprised that people had low expectations for South Dakota. I’ve been and am going back this year and looking forward to it!
Pittsburgh absolutely.
South Dakota, why?
