Not really. I think OP’s point is that nobody has to live like this. It’s not a “tragedy” like a hurricane. It’s a crime, which is increasing in DC.

I agree so much. Look OP, good for you for moving. But let it go. You're gone, what do you care. Let the rest of us do the work you wouldn't do to press our government to do better.

I understand that PP urging people to leave the city sounds extreme, but boycotting is a form of social protest when other measures of drawing attention to an issue have failed. Restorative justice and "police reform: are in full swing thanks to Charles Allen and our city council. But what are the parts of these movements that provide crime prevention and criminal reform? Is societal safety at large still a goal? How will it be ensured? How is it measured? As the unsolved crimes ratchet up from car theft and jackings to brazen murders , the Mayor and Council need to acknowledge that crime, homelessness, drug abuse and mental health are challenges that DC needs to address in more ways than "but guns!" "but police reform!" "but early release!" "but equity!". Until they do outline clear preventive, detecting/adjudicating/convicting and criminal reform proposals, people can and will vote with their feet as the most dramatic way of saying "no thanks". And that comes as a hardship to them as well. When families uproot over safety, it is the city that has done them a disservice.
