I’m gonna be honest, people I know who are hard freaking out about the coming end of mask mandates are not exactly the types who had a rollicking social life before Covid. So yeah ........


I actually don’t know who these people are in real life. I am fairly antisocial but have rarely worn a mask outside and am thrilled not to. My few friends are not rabid maskers. My elderly next door neighbor is, but what are the others like? How did they come to be this way?

Exactly. Worry less about why someone might keep a mask on. It costs you nothing.

And the ones I know are contact tracers with medical research backgrounds. They are concerned.

You have to be the first one at the playground. I’ve noticed if you’re the first and don’t wear a mask, then no one does. But people (ok, women, not so much the men) feel pressured to mask if everyone else is.

Just take your mask off. Others will too.

This is pretty reasonable. Reasons to wear a mask might be:
1. if playground - or school pickup area, etc - got very crowded, as they sometimes do during COVID
2. if wearing one helped with kids keeping their masks on (serving as a model for them)
3. if you were going in and out of doors, and it was easier to leave it on than fuss with it

The likelihood of getting covid outside is not zero. Not all adults are vaccinated. Kids are not vaccinated. Kids are in close contact with each other on the playground. The vaccine is to reduce your symptoms. You can still get and spread covid but the goal is for you to be asymptomatic. Great interpretation to meet your needs though.

Please don’t diminish the vaccines. Breakthrough cases are still very, very limited.
