APS teacher here. This is me. I’m exhausted and need a break before we hit the ground running in the fall. I want to spend time with my own kids this summer and have time to see family members I haven’t seen in over a year.
Selfish. The rest of us work year round and often for less pay.

Our family was selected for summer school previously. I'm still unclear after reading it who is still qualified for it.
What a mess. APS couldn't do right for our children this year. Makes me wonder about next, and if I should take door #2: private school
EL 1’s and 2’s (newcomers)
IEP students who qualify for ESY: that is, in your IEP it provides for summer school because you have critical life skills as your goals and the team determines summer services are necessary to address them. If unsure, check your IEP under the “ESY” page. It would be detailed there.
Originally all students with IEP’s were eligible regardless of academic need. For example a student who has speech services only for articulation would get to attend the reading and math strengthening program even if on or above grade level.
As a parent of a child with a language disorder, you aren't getting speech services for articulation.

There will be only Lexia and dreambox offered to kids including those with IEP that do not have ESY. This may be the only option APS can offer, but the kids will be further behind than now....Pre-K that got a letter can go to Summer school and they got extra days of school this year. Great for them ,sucks for K through 5th that need support too.
Gee- I wonder why teachers are clamoring to work this summer?! Teachers are BURNT OUT. They need higher pay. Period. If you want APS schools to stay “top notch”, pay our teachers better so that the good ones stay for years.

I’m a teacher and I saw first hand that virtual was harder for my children and my students than it was for me.
We teachers got vaccinated early so we could support our students and many have failed to do so. Summer school is a chance to make it up to the kids but now some are backing away from that duty.

Thanks, teacher haters.
It's more than just teacher hate from parents though. APS didn't do right by them either at any turn.
APS has certainly made mistakes, but they did wait until teachers were vaccinated and also just approved a decent pay package.
The teacher haters are 100% TRASH.
