Yup. In fact if babies have issues while being born it’s called “fetal distress.” As long as it’s still inside it’s technically a fetus.
Fetal distress sounds more medical than "baby distress." But I have NEVER heard a mom call her 39 week old a fetus. That is very odd. It's your baby.

These predictors for birth weight are notoriously wrong. Also, you are much more likely to have to have a c-section if the induction stalls. A c-section, while very common, is major surgery.
This. Doctors like to induce because then They can schedule your delivery instead of otherwise having to come in the middle of night when you go into labor.

My big baby was born induced at 39w 4d and was his 36 week predicted weight. Would do an induction again for sure. It was less stressful and I knew better what to expect. I did read there is a higher risk for jaundice, but not sure if it’s anecdotal or research based.

Yeah, they thought my 2nd was big... warned me while i was in labor that she appeared to be 9+ lbs so a C section might be needed. I ended up having her vaginally and she was 7 lbs on the dot.

Going past 40 weeks is ok actually. Its after 41 weeks when issues can arise.
Normal gestation is anywhere from 38-42 weeks. Both of mine were born spontaneously after 41 weeks (41 - 6 days, and 41 - 5 days) and both were just under 7 lbs. And yes I knew the exact dates of conception, so there was no confusion. So many of my friends got early inductions due to "big baby" and not one of them had a baby even over 8.5 lbs...
Sorry, I meant 7.5 lbs...

Girl or a boy? I've had 2 10lbers. Boys have larger shoulders and more shoulder dystocias- that's when there's a problem because of the baby weight. I don't think anything else about baby weight matters. It's whether the shoulders are large. I had very, very long labors, but was okay, it was just the boy who got stuck. Mine were also 22", so the weight was stretched out a bit. I'm 5'1 and 120lbs, so everyone was surprised by my gigantic babies.
11lbs is crazy though! I hope at least the baby slept and ate well because it was big!

They are. And they don't gain a pound or a pound and a half a week. In the third tri they can gain up to half a pound a week, which is a huge jump from earlier in the pregnancy when the energy is going into building systems and organs and such. That PP is just a bit of a nut.

I had to get induced past 41 weeks because the baby was 9lbs. If I had the baby at 40 weeks, baby would have been the normal range at about 7.5 to 8lbs.
My second baby was induced at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes, and the baby was close to 8lbs already.
I grow them big, and I'm super petite. No, I didn't gain a huge amount of weight. I actually had to be on a strict diet and exercise due to the gestational diabetes.
Sorry, but no. Your fetus did not gain a pound and a half in the last week.
at that stage, baby can gain 1lb per week. Doctor also told me earlier that the BABY was projected to be 7.5lb at 40weeks.

I remember the estimates get less reliable the closer you are to 40 weeks because of the head position, but I don't know how reliable 36 weeks may be. Probably better than mine a day or so before each was born.
I induced the first at 40w1d and it was not a good experience so I asked to hold out a little longer with the second (expecting to have a similar sized baby). I went into labor overnight right before I was scheduled for an induction at 40w5d. The labor/delivery experience better, however, there were issues for the baby and me due to size.
Doctors told me they would never have me go 40w again if I had more kids. In my case "prediction of big baby" would be based on previously very big baby and measurements.
What was the issue with your induction? Was it just very painful?
