OK, I dislike Riemer more than almost any other politician out there, but Gayles doesn't own the guidance and information he tells people. He's the public health officer after all. He's supposed to give us guidance. And Riemer is just educating his constituents with that note.

The guy is so egotistical that he thinks Riemer should cite him when repeating his guidance. But in any case, I'm not going to defend Gayles but I can see a situation if you work in the vicinity of Riemer for long enough that you would just interpret all of his behavior as craven. Because well...

hahah, true.

Ok what’s the backstory with Riemer? He doesn’t seem well liked but don’t know the particulars....

I dunno. Wanting to outsource all traffic enforcement to the engineers in DOT?

Moco government employees an open bigot as one of it's leaders...let that sink in. As a moderate Dem, the silence is akin to the silence of R's when Trump was in office. It is the very same action we abhorred from that group of people Sadly, I wished for better from this group.

This would be an opportunity for Elrich or the Council to actually show some guts and put out some forceful words, but they won't do that either. I can't imagine Elrich doing so, would be nice to see some of the more reasonable Council members do anything. I can think of one or two that would probably want to but won't for the sake of county politics and it being a perceived risk to say anything at all negative about Gayles.

They all have the same mindset. I am almost certain they see nothing wrong with his comments.

This. And that's a big problem because I tend to agree with Gayles/Elrich/County Council on a lot of things but I can't support this. It tells me he made decisions, and others supported him, out of vindictiveness and not public health considerations. That undermines everything else we need to do to end the pandemic.

I donated to Elrich and voted for him. I personally agreed with the decision to keep both public and private schools closed at the time until county case numbers came down.

However, I really just cannot get with this. The "vindictiveness" that you point out seems to have infected a lot of prevailing attitudes in this county, not just public health but also education and planning. it is very troubling because we are either one community or we are not. It seems that a lot people, particularly people in important positions, do not believe that we are. It frankly worries me for the future of this county.

I don't know if it is making fun or just an accurate statement regarding Riemer's character, or lack thereof.

I'm willing to bet it's because few people know about it and county officials want to keep it that way. People need to write their councilmemebers- it will be harder for them to ignore if they hear from constituents about it. And other news organizations need to pick up the story.

+1. I would not have heard about this at all if I had not seen this thread, I never read the Washington Examiner.
