My child scored in the 98th percentile on the IAAT, but we are likely to enroll them in Math 7 HN at Jackson for 7th, even if they advanced pass the SOL. Middle school is a big enough adjustment, and they will be taking two HS classes in 8th grade, which is plenty. I haven't asked around, but I don't think it's a given that all AAP kids take Alg I HN in 7th. (Math is also not technically an AAP class - kids can take advanced math without being enrolled in the AAP center program.)

English at LJ is top notch, quite frankly better than Madison and we are several years in. Mrs Tempesta who is a rock star. History/Science were more hit and miss at LJ depending on the teacher.

I think curriculum is stronger at LJ overall.

Some Thoreau algebra teachers are not good but the same applies at LJ.

Ms. Tempests at LJ AAP is incredible. We had great science at LJ also.

I know the stats about misconduct at LJ but it just was not our experience.

I definitely don't want him to take algebra I. I don't want him to bite off more than he can chew. Just concerned he wont have many peers in his math class from AAP. I know that folks in 6th grade AAP going to Thoreau mostly are not taking Algebra I but not sure about the LJ crowd. If its half-half then thats not too bad
