And as hard as it is to hear, consider behavioral euthanasia if you really can’t control your dog. Not every dog should be a family pet living in a neighborhood. People walk their kids at off hours too. If your dog gets loose and attacks my kid, my kid gets injured and your dog gets euthanized anyway.
From, a person who had an out of control dog and had her kid chased down and injured by a dog got out of the house even though they had many safeguards in place.
Look, my reactive dog is being trained. In fact, I don’t think we’ll ever get to a point where we won’t be training. The prong collar is part of that training. It keeps him in check. If he’s walking nicely, nothing is happening and he isn’t in any discomfort. The e-collar is for off leash only, and we’re at the point where he just needs to have it on, we very rarely have to shock him, and the shock is so minor that I can do it on my own bare skin and it just feels like pins and needles.
