Allow swearing. Swears are usually for emphasis, and not necessarily an insult or "bad."

-I want to block some topics from MY recent page (cars, beauty/fashion, VA schools because I live in MD), customizable would be great

-Covid gets its own thread that does NOT appear in amy recent topics

-no quoting/requoting long posts! I scroll on my phone and it is annoying

-lock every thread after one year, but keep threads searchable (it's been at least a few weeks since someone posted about plantar fasciitis)

-no more "is this classy/tacky?"

-no more can I afford xx (house, private school, amount for vacation), because we cannot answer that one for you

-no more "can I eat _______ after I left it on the counter, in the garage, wherever"

-keep it anonymous, or I, and I'm sure many others, will leave

- no more "you are insufferable" and the like. It's not helpful and does not contribute anything of value

--Wish there were a way to sign in and still be anonymous. I'd like to be able to edit my posts but I'm not going to give up my anonymity.
--Wish people wouldn't constantly say that posts are from trolls. I have posted several times about legitimate concerns that get called troll posts. When I add details for clarity, posters say, "SEE! Adding detail means it's a troll post." Just chill on calling troll. Give advice or don't.
--I wish there were a forum like a community bulletin board. I used to post opportunities for research subjects for my psych lab and got lots of DCUM respondents. We pay! It's fun! It's legit! But for some reason this got banned. It would be nice to use this forum for this type of opportunity but also for volunteer opportunities, meet ups, swaps, etc.

Change:
1. Let me EASILY quote just the last thing I am replying to.
2. Grammar corrections are eligible for reporting and deletion god how I hate the grammar police.
3. Fewer topics that get quarantined into one zillions of pages long thread. Hate when that happens.

1. Anonymous posting
2. Older replies as they are helpful for like school searches (but lock them so they cannot be posted on after X time).

I wouldn't change a thing. I love it warts and all.

I like that idea. There have been times where I was the OP of a post, and someone else posted, but others assumed it was me (the OP.)

Actually, several months ago I even had someone else claim to be the OP of my thread! It was so weird. It was a post in the real estate forum where I talked about a house we were considering putting in an offer (it's an area where the market is not as hot as here in the DC area, so we had time to think about it.) I came back a couple days later to update that we had put in an offer. A few hours later I see a post, quoting my update, that said "I don't know who this is...but I am the OP and we did not put in an offer!" It was so weird!

I'd give everyone an extra 50 points on their IQ
then I'd surgically remove any bitterness or envy they might carry around
then hangups, obsessions and bigotry
they'd never be able to repeat themselves after saying something once
they would be required to say 4 positive things for every 1 negative thing
no swearing, no insults

Agree with previously mentioned items, but particularly and in no particular order:

Be the change you want to see in the DCUM.
No need for Hall Monitors.
Covid topics to be like the political forum and not show up in the recent topics.
DCUM is addictive.
The ability to filter certain forums from appearing in "Recent Topics" and the ability to hide posts.
Stickers, really appeal to me.

The other issue is that DC, and therefore DCUM, is the largest hub of international families outside of NYC in U.S. simply by our sheer diplomatic presence. All of them are fluent in English.

Its not so much psy-ops as people being assholes I think. But also yeah - there are a lot of foreign trolls on these boards. Especially in politics.

I would eliminate the addictive properties of DCUM.
