All teams from the 12U through U18U age groups must compete in one or more of the following
leagues: a VYSA member sanctioned league and/or the EDP League and/or the EDP National League
Conference League. The league must consist of at least four teams with the team playing at least three
(3) league games against different opponents during the seasonal year.
If a team participates in VYSA State Cup competition and does not complete the required league play
prior to June 15, 2021, the team will forfeit all VYSA State Cup games played, pay a fine of $500.00,
and the team, if more than 9 players return, will not be allowed to participate in the VYSA State
Championship Series games the following seasonal year. No opponent’s scores or standings in any of
the State Cup games forfeited for this reason will be affected.
So let's take Arlington's Boys U14 ECNL team. They only compete in ECNL. They do not compete in EDP or any other VYSA league. Can they not participate in State Cup? If they can. how do they get around this rule?

No one cares I bet not one MLS Next or ECNL team signed up
Ya, wonder why those leagues are too scared to compete?
Now don't be unfair. The best teams are not afraid to compete - just the ones which have the badge and the pricetag but not the ability. Competing would provide evidence that they are no better, and quite possibly worse, than other nearby clubs which charge half as much. Arlington enters all its teams. Alexandria appears to have done the same. Mclean, to its credit, also does so even though their teams are not all that strong.
It's just BRYC, Loudoun, VDA and Richmond that have decided not to. And it wouldn't surprise me at all to see VDA and Richmond enter next year - I'm guessing they didn't even think about it this year as they were not previously allowed to enter when competing in the DA league so it probably just wasn't on their radar. That would leave just Loudoun and BRYC hiding from the competition. The reason is not too hard to find.
Arlington and McLean have entered their second teams at U13/U14. Arlington Red and McLean green are the 2nd teams once you hit U13. At U12 the ECNL clubs enter their top team although McLean has not entered theirs. Probably still in witness protection.
You are simply wrong and this is false. The Arlington boys have submitted both the encl and red teams. You obviously know nothing about what they are doing on the boys side. U12 red is second team for boys at Arlington. Please stop broadcasting falsehoods like this and either stop lying or limit your statements to girls.

Anonymous wrote:I have a 2007 ECNL player. Our team participated at U12 and it was such a great experience. Girls won and went to regionals. We asked the coach why we can't do it this year and were told that ECNL clubs are prohibited from entering.

To the best of my knowledge, all the club has to do is register the kids with USYS and it's done. No need for the team to register for a league. Does anyone know for sure?
There are requirements to actually play in a USYS/VYSA league or EDP. You can’t just buy USYS passes. It’s in the state cup rules https://bsbproduction.s3.amazonaws.com/portals/27433/docs/state%20cup/state%20cup%20rules%202020-2021%20final%202-26-2021.pdf
Does this prevent ECNL teams from participating? Is this why clubs send their second team? I have a 2008 ECNL DD. Her team was going to participate last year but it was cancelled (thanks covid). This year they were told they cannot enter because they are ECNL.

I understand older kids trying to be on the best teams and getting noticed, other leagues' showcases taking precidence and the like, but it's your state. Bring your best and let's see how good you are. Might be one and done or you may get to claim the title. To be the best you have to beat the best. If you think you are already the best then show it. Random flighted tournaments don't give you that.
100% agree. Well done all the clubs that enter - and shame on those that don't.
Plus if Arlington can enter its teams - including the ones above U15, I fail to see that any other club has a good reason not to.
Not sure if you saw the earlier post that explains that clubs like Arlington that’ have their top team in ECNL can only enter state cup by also signing up their teams to play in a second league, like EDP, which means that those teams are playing constantly between ECNL and EDP, plus state cup games. Usually, it’s the teams that have big rosters that can do that, otherwise you are looking at injuries that teams with smaller rosters can’t afford.
