Rejected: Northeastern, Vandy, Tulane, Emory
Did he apply EDI or ED2 anywhere? The kids at our private that are doing well with admissions all got in early, usually at an ED2 after being rejected at their ED1 choice. I’m sorry for your DS. I do think WL will move a lot this year.

Damn waitlisted at Vermont with that kind of stats? Is his school newly founded with limited reputation?
In any case, I expect to see him come off WL for some. Also don't lose hope for Ivy day either.

How could a college counselor help work the waitlist? If there is a counselor that has connections at a particular school, then maybe I could see how someone might be able to put a thumb on the scale. Otherwise, I'm not sure how that would work.

If it is waitlist for Tulane, make a trip and meet the area admissions counselor. He is very good at pulling for people he has a connection with.

You put Tulane there twice. If Tulane was a wait-list DS has a good shot there. Send a loci and make a phone call to his admissions officer.
This, and the college counselor is a major benefit you have been paying for for a private school. If that person isn't responsive, have the HM start making calls. I went to private school a hundred years ago in central NJ, but that is what happened in similar situations for some of my fellow students who had college admission struggles.

I’m not thrilled with his college counselor at school. She hasn’t even checked in on his to see how he is doing. I give up on that process too. He is crushed. I am crushed for him.
I’d anyone else having this horrible of a situation? And please don’t say, “my love sucks too, my daughter only got into Emory and not Brown” or some such nonsense. His safety he got in is a safety for everyone.
Hi, sorry for being unclear. There are some other parents I’ve been talking to who say things like, “I feel so bad for my daughter, she only got into Emory and she had her heart set on Brown.” My son didn’t have his heart set on anywhere in particular, but he thought he’d have some options. His safety school is one with a very high percentage acceptance rate. It’s not like he is upset because he didn’t get into his huge reach schools and only his matches.
I don’t know what could be wrong with his application. His counselor approved it. His teachers rave about him in PT conferences. He’s not a perfect kid but he is hard working.
I will suggest he look at some of the rolling admissions schools. I thought their application deadlines would be over by now!
And no please don’t accuse me of trolling, we have enough sadness here already.

I know kids with much lower SATs who got into the schools on your list.

Those waitlists sound like yield protection. Have him write a letter of continued interest and maybe will get in off WL.
I agree, but outright rejections at Northeastern and Tulane are pretty surprising too. I might have expected at least a WL at the others, but those are more of a crapshoot and can't be called as much of a surprise.

I had a friend who went to a school, got all As, volunteered and doubled majored. But she couldn’t pass the MCATs. And a substantial portion of her pre-Med class couldn’t either.
As mean nothing if the rigor of the coursework or instructors aren’t there.

If he goes to the place where he got accepted, most likely in 4 or 5 years he will be saying "I was a little disappointed when I enrolled but now I feel like it was meant to be." He sounds like a smart hard worker and he will be successful wherever he goes, and in many cases being a stronger student than one's peers can be an advantage in college. He can get the attention of his professors and be very competitive for campus-based leadership, internships, etc.

Many of those schools require demonstrated interest.
