If you think it’s too late for changes, let’s just keep everyone with exactly what they signed up for, DL or 2 days hybrid. Let me guess, though, you’re not okay with that. Changes which benefit your child are okay .. everyone else can just suck it up... it’s all moot anyway because the LCPS teacher posted they will accommodate everyone. Your selfishness in implying DL kids shouldn’t be able to make changes because it could affect your kid being able to go 4 days is sad, though, and says a lot about who you are as a person...

If the DL are allowed in, then there might be so many, that they would not be able to do 4 days/week, and would have to switch to 2 days/week, which is what the DL opted out of.

If 40% are opting in, then this 40% should be able to go every day and fit within the smaller capacity.
If it is 5 days a week, many of the DL would opt in, thus making it impossible to do 4 days/week.

If they switch to 3 foot social distancing everyone can be accommodated.

Ashburn middle schools can probably take everyone who wants in, as right now Eagle Ridge is a ghost town, with just a few kids per class. My son was the only kid in his class most of the time, 5 kids in gym that is usually 50, and the teacher just let them play games on their chromebooks. Even lunch was 10 kids in a cafeteria that seats hundreds.

Our principal specifically said dl to hybrid is not possible because the classrooms are at max capacity. Hybrid to DL is possible. If they adopt 3 feet, or there is space available(definitely true at some of the middle schools) then they can maybe let people in.

The logic of 2 days per week hybrid is because of the 6 feet social distancing, they now have classes at half capacity, so only half the students can come in. However, with half the students picking distance learning, then the other half should be able to come in all the time.
Before there was perhaps a limiting factor of only half the teachers were coming in, but they adjusted for that with assistants to monitor the class while the teacher teaches from home. With vaccinations, all teachers would be coming in, so they can accommodate the half who chose hybrid.
The other half they can accommodate if they drop six foot social distancing, which people are now acknowledging is not based on science.

Only half the teachers?? LMAO. Only 701 teachers in the entire county are on P1 work at home status. That’s it. All the rest of us are back.

That is the number we were given after the first survey, slightly higher than the student numbers. I haven't kept up to date. What is the current percentage?

The options were DL or In Person.

Those opting for DL should be doing so because of the priority of health and safety for that family. Those choosing in person have prioritized education as a greater benefit to the risks involved.

Picking DL over in person because 2 days a week is less appealing than 4 days a week does not mean the school system is asinine.

We all knew that if you’re already in person 2 days a week then if the school ever decides to extend the in person days, then it would be that group of kids. Having more than them would go over the restricted mitigation limits and put you right back at hybrid.

Common sense people.

Nope. The choice was full time DL or hybrid 2 days/week. The choices have changed therefore everyone gets to make a new decision based on the new rules. You are just worried your Larla won’t be able to go 4 days/week if more people opt in. Selfish much?

Why did you not anticipate this possibility? We all watched many things change in real time in the fall. Did you think that was it, no more changes? Did you think this scenario was somehow off the table? If so...why? The school board and other leadership have been pretty clear about trying as hard as possible to get kids back to school. Agree with the other PP...common sense. I don't understand how anyone can be shocked or blindsided by the decision.

The LCPS teacher who said they would accommodate everyone is mistaken. It may be true for her school. It isn’t true for all. Some schools do not have the space to add more. If they do, they will only be accommodate so many who ask and then it’ll get cut off. District admin is going to stop allowing that moving forward because if they didn’t, essentially everyone will just opt in. It says currently enrolled hybrid students only for a reason.

There are definitely people who have asked and were told no.

It's your fault you signed up for DL now your crying because you screwed up. It was clear things could change. It could have gone the other way and the DL kids could be forced back into all hybrid. Hybrid kids are still hybrid with Mondays off.

+1 yep. No mercy!

Which is why I quickly moved my kids to hybrid before the everyone else got the same idea. There were 5 slots in my ES child’s grade and now they are all gone. MS was easier.

This was in the works BEFORE the school board meeting which I posted numerous times on this page and people were like noooo, they will have to do a reselect. I'm like no, it's not gonna happen. It's already a done deal. Move your kids fools.

Why are you so rude? That’s probably why posters ignored you. And I said school board meetingS. Plural.

They didn't ignore me, reading is fundamental.. They argued and felt entitled to a rule change. Their indignation was irrelevant to the facts.

But aren’t you on here arguing they should ask for a change and will likely get it? (Which is entirely school dependent btw?) I moved my kids in the nick of time, but if I had been denied and this change was made I’d be upset too.

This is probably possible because the vast majority of LCPS families chose DL so the in-person classes are pretty empty
