I consider it a necessity.

I have been a homeowner for 25 years and think I have never used my laundry room utility sink (except that our washer drains into it so I could not get rid of it). I never paint (and whwn my kids were little, we’d just wash paintbrushes in a bathroom or kitchen sink rather than traipse down to the laundry room). When we have muddy sneakers, we leave them on front porch and then bang off the dirt when dry. It never crossed my mind to hose them down in a sink (don’t they take a long time to dry?). No idea why we have no use for ours while others seem to use theirs a lot but my guess is that no one needs one, but many people take good advantage of having one (just not me, haha).

We have a sink like the one you describe, OP. Shallow, maybe 6” deep, on top of a cabinet. I have never used it like a utility sink but I do toss our kids dirty shoes, dirty masks, or other super soiled stuff in there until I deal with it. I haven’t thought about whether I would keep it, but I suppose I use it enough that I do like it.

No but I love having a sink in the garage.

Lord, I had a bedroom accident and needed my laundry farm sink to soak the murder out of the bedding. It's better to have a deep laundry sink for all the mistakes/accidents and projects that WILL come up. There is some stank for which you need a large sink (that is no where near food prep areas).

I use mine to wash off muddy boots.

I could not have made it through the poopy newborn phase w/o a laundry sink.

We have a utility sink upstairs in our laundry and we added a dog wash to our first floor, which is like a utility sink on steroids. We use both all the time.

I’m having one added. I like soaking stains and sometimes have a small handwash pile I need to get too that gets in the way of other daily use sinks.

My new house has the laundry room upstairs. I opted out of a sink. I put in a larger cabinet for storage.

My last house had a sink I. The laundry room. I miss that sink all the time. In thinking of having a washer dryer placed in my basement just so I can have a sink again. When my kids have muddy shoes and clothes I miss that sink.

Where will you rinse barfy sheets? What about super muddy soccer clothes or sweatpants? I wouldn't give up my laundry room sink for anything.

I love my utility sink. I paint and I prefer using that sink to wash my brushes. That’s also where I do my dyeing stuff for fabric.

We have a utility sink in the basement, where the laundry used to be. Where we moved it upstairs, there's no sink. It's been 14 years since we've moved the laundry. The kids were two and four back then, I haven't missed the sink. Never used it in the basement, don't miss it upstairs.
