The first week will be slow even if you take a few weeks off before.
You value money above all? You don't see a need to relax? You have kids? You value money about them?

2k is going to break you?

I get 6 weeks vacation a year (and that doesn't cost me 2k to use). Why would I blow 2k when I could just use a week of annual leave? I relax all the time and I do have children that I love dearly.

My last 2 jobs I took a week, but both were also interstate moves with selling/buying/renting housing and moving a family.

If I take a job Im interviewing for now, i would probably finish my current role in early July and start the new on in September, giving me 2 months to sell/buy/move, and have some time off. I'm tired. But in my line of work, long on and off ramps (several months) are typical.

Actually, in fairness to PP, depending on the payroll cycle, it can be up to 3 weeks after one starts work before they get paid. While we should all strive to have enough money in the bank to cover that period, we know that's not always the case for everyone.

Most professional jobs don't need someone RIGHT NOW. They need the right person soon. They can usually afford to wait a few extra weeks.

I was at the last job for >10 years, so I gave 3 weeks notice and then took 4 weeks off before starting the next gig. Will take longer next time around if I can make it work. I'd love to take off 3 months, but that really requires quitting without the next job lined up.

Not really. I'm usually excited to start. If I took a vacation (sitting at home for a week or 2 is NOT my idea of fun, especially after 2020/2021) right before I would keep thinking of when I start so it wouldn't be that enjoyable.

You Negotiate.

You know you can negotiate a start date, right? And you don't have to tell them what you are doing in the meantime. Maybe you're wrapping up a project at your current place? A good place will wait a couple of weeks for you because they think you're the right person for the job. If not, well, consider it a good indication of the culture of the company.

Usually my new employer is hushing me to start asap. I think if I can give 1 day notice they would push me to do that.

5 days into the road trip, he died in a car accident. I always wondered if he had life insurance coverage. I know it's none of my business and I would never ask, but even just the question was enough that I'd think twice about taking time between jobs if there was any doubt about insurance benefits of any kind.

Who cares if he had life insurance? Jobs usually provide very little life insurance anyway.

I had 2.5 at prior company and made 330k. So it is a lot.

Also if he lived no disability or severance. My nice company I worked for years ago let you use vacation before notice period. We would let folks take two weeks vacation if they had it come back two weeks for notice so was nice for employee.

Even you quit a job and take a break they can pull the offer letter and you are screwed.

Also medical is paid on 1st of month company so if taking time off have to quit towards beginning of month and start by 1 st of next month.

Plus we all will eventually get laid off.

I quit a job on a Tuesday and started new on on Wed. My favorites worked for company that walked you out door when you have two weeks notice and resigned.

I waited till Friday to do it before start date and got double pay.

And exactly what does an unemployed man with a working wife do in middle of pandemic with this time off?

Also if you get hurt you are screwed. No long term comp, employee life insurance stopped, no disability
