Read this.

Ethanol is a toxin. Fact.

All countries including the US and the oft-cited France say no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy.

And yet RCOG guidance is to abstain completely in the first trimester and small amounts afterward have not been shown to be harmful. Didn’t even have to learn a new language.

Yup, I usually have a glass of wine or a beer once a week. On Christmas Eve I had two glasses of champagne!

Never more than ⅓ to ½ a glass a few times. I also tasted my husband’s mixed drinks, whisky. Like a sip. But largely I couldn’t tolerate it until second half or pregnancy. Was very sensitive to caffeine as well. I’ve not metabolized wine well since conception. I’m so fatigued it just makes me uncomfortably sleepy instead of relaxed.

Yep. Once a month allowed myself a small glass of wine or beer. Huge treat.

You realize the medical advice is different all over the world yes? My dad is European. The guidance in his home country is very different than here. Am I allowed to follow that guidance when I'm visiting family? Or do American rules follow me everywhere?

Personally, I have about ten glasses of wine total throughout my second and third trimesters, with food. My kids are both advanced.

The science shoes absolutely no risks for small, occasional consumption. But telling women that is too complicated, so the CDC has a blanket recommendation of no alcohol.

Nope. No way I could enjoy it. Even tried having half a glass of champagne for a special occasion around 8 months but after one sip it just seemed ridiculous. Started drinking too much after baby 2 then recently decided to not keep anything in th e house because it makes me feel like garbage. I loo and feel so much better.

I seriously can’t stomach alcohol when pregnant, my nausea is just too bad. I did have a few sips of champagne at my wedding though when I was 5weeks (I miscarried after that, but it had nothing to do with the champagne).

This.

And the rates of disability among adults 40 and over would be through the roof, given how frequently women in those generations and older drank while pregnant.

I hope everyone who’s sanctimonious about this issue also exercised daily while pregnant, ate only the most nutrient-dense food, minimized stress, etc.

Don’t forget “and never got into a car other than absolutely necessary visits to the doctors office”

I drank coffee throughout with the concurrence of my OB, I am also a migraine sufferer. Expecting Better has an interesting look at the caffeine studies if you’re interested.

I intended to drink occasional good wine, but discovered I had a taste aversion. I could have a really good champagne but who opens a bottle to have one glass?

I drank more than a small amount during the first 14 weeks bc I didn't know I was pregnant. Fortunately DD is just fine (she's now a HS senior with a 4+ GPA etc).

Yes, would have a single glass of sparkling with food and take sips of beer.
