I got pregnant for the first time at 35 on one try. It is not hard at all for many people. Had a totally normal and healthy pregnancy and baby. It is a total myth that it can be challenging for most to get pregnant after 35. Everyone has a different fertility cliff...most women before modern times had babies until they literally couldn't anymore...which was generally mid 40s. Stopping at 2-3 kids in your 20s and 30s is a modern thing.

I really don't think it is as statistically uncommon as people make it out to be. I think we totally overstate the idea that fertility declines in the late 30s, and so a lot of people think it's "unlikely" to get pregnant from one time when you are in your late 30s or early 40s, so they roll the dice and figure the odds are in their favor. It's just not very uncommon and we are doing people a disservice by overstating the fertility declines.


It's especially not uncommon for women who have previously had children. If you have two kids, your body has already demonstrated that you are fertile. It used to be pretty common for women to have a third or fourth or fifth kid in their late 30s/early 40s. Secondary fertility issues exist, but are not the norm. So a demonstrably fertile woman having unprotected sex should not be surprised if she gets pregnant.

When I was 34 and we were a few months from officially planning to start trying for #2 I was using temp charting to assess my fertility. Not a perfect method but I have a super regular, clear cycle. Had sex once that month absolutely nowhere near my fertile time and surprise! Pregnant! I guess DD was just meant to be

Because every single thread on this site that deals with having kids after age 30-35 gets dozens of comments saying your chances of getting pregnant at those ages are nonexistent and that most of those people you know who got pregnant actually had IVF and just didn't tell you.


Oh really? You get your health and fertility and family planning advice from DCUM? How very interesting. I get my advice on those topics from DOCTORS and books/resources written by doctors and scientists.

Same thing happened to me! 18 months to get pregnant with my first at 36. We decided to try for our second as soon as the first turned one because we figured I was even older and it would take even longer. Nope! Pregnant on the first try. And that's how we ended up with two under two.

Yup. You have 2 kids already. Meaning during every birth your reproductive system and hormones was shaken up. Took me 18 months to get pregnant with my first at 33. Took one time of unprotected sex to get pregnant with second when first was 3. A friend has 2 ivf babies and was told she could not have children (blocked tubes etc) without it. She had a surprise 3rd baby last year. Fertility is still so very unknown.

Look at the Meghan Markle threads - she got married at 36 and half the comments basically said she was too old to be fertile.
