Honda CR-V. It will last him 20-years with no repairs, just minimal maintenance. He can’t go too fast in it and good in the snow.

Best all around.

OP, you should really post inseam vs torso length. That person who posted about that is spot on. The needs may vary depending on where majority of height is.

An 18 year old doesn't need a $30,000 car. That's ridiculous. And we're rich and could easily afford it.

You are obnoxious. Your opinion is irrelevant and you have no idea what OP’s 18 year old needs. Also, no one asked or cares how much money you have or what you can afford.

By contract, my very long-legged 6'3" husband was very uncomfortable in the Forester (like sitting in a chair strapped to a platform) and only moderately more comfortable in the Crosstrek (lower, more reclined seating). I had planned to get one last year and had to change my plans because we test drove several and he just couldn't get situated comfortably.

I also found Subarus have terrible pickup. My 2004 Civic had more get-up-and-go on merges than any of the brand new Subarus I test drove. I wanted so badly to love them, but they were very disappointing.

Get the XT version, which has a turbocharged 4-cylinder. The pickup is fine, IMHO. No worse than other 4-cyclinder small/mid-size SUVs or minivans.
