It was someone I dated. He has always been honest and blunt but I wasn't sure what cankles were. I diet strictly and lift weights and have been doing so for years and my legs always looked the same.

OP’s ankles definitely have less circumference than her calves, thus no cankles. Some people have ankles that almost look swollen or bloated and that contributes to the cankle look. OP may be a little overweight and has short legs, but she doesn’t have cankles.
