PP here, we also bought our lift tickets online and rent the kids skis off resort. Makes everything so much easier. Less lines, less hassle and you are on the slopes so much faster.

We skied at Wisp on a weekday of the Pres. Day/Inauguration break. In line to pick up our lift passes and rentals before the desks opened at 8:30. Employee 1 didn’t show up until 8:45. Employee 2 drifted in around 8:50. By then the lines were ridiculous.

I was at Wisp yesterday. Conditions were pretty good- Good base, lots of coverage and not too crowded. Lack of crowds was obviously due to it being a weekday. Can't rate all the local ski hills, but my favorites are Canaan, Timberline and Wisp.

Canaan Valley is right next door if TL is too busy for you. Also a fantastic mountain just doesn't have the fast lift. Also, best snow by far in the mid-Atlantic. We left yesterday and there was a foot on the ground. Feel free to ask questions... we are out there every weekend.

Snowshoe - way too far and you have to stay there. Plus they are limiting tickets.
Wisp - terrain and snow are terrible. Plus seems like they can't get anything actually open even though this has been the BEST WINTER in 6 years.
Whitetail and Liberty - way too crowded, limiting tickets.

Just go to WV. You won't regret it.


You work for Timberline, right?

Snowshoe has been packed this season and lift tickets are sold out for every weekend.


That doesn't mean it is packed, it means they have sold the number of tickets allowed.


We were just there this weekend. It was packed. We skied on Friday at Snowshoe and waited in lines for every single run (Ballhooter lift wait was 20-30 minutes each time). Green slopes very congested so new skiers should avoid Snowshoe unless they can ski mid-week. Ski patrol was very busy.


Currently at Snowshoe now during the week and it’s great! No lines whatsoever. If you can do 3 or 4 days during the week, it’s the way to go this season.

do you stay overnight or just do day trips? If you stay overnight where do you stay? We have been wanting to go, but it is hard to find lodging and seems far for a day trip.

I've been to Whitetail a few times and it really isn't packed. They are limiting ticket sales and I've found that it's less crowded than in normal years. The backside (the "expert" area) has not had any lines at all. Check the webcams, the backside is the 3rd webcam.

I wouldn’t bother going skiing now bc it is basically the only family activity around these parts, and it is absolutely packed, which defeats the purpose of anything enjoyable.

Are you looking for a weekend away or a day trip?

Liberty and whitetail are close if you are looking for a day trip. I prefer whitetail, my kids like liberty for the terrain park. Lift lines in the front of the mountain are longer at liberty.
Massanutten and Bryce are tinny, kids will be bored quickly.

Snowshoe- Biggest of the bunch. if you are looking to go this season good luck getting a weekend lift tickets. They are sold out most weekend.


Op here. We decided on snowshoe and realized no weekend lift tickets are available like you said.

I guess it isn’t even about what is best anymore. Massanutten also has no weekend availability.

Do any of these places have weekend availability?


Massanutten has posted its guidelines for when tickets become available and that’s 10 days out for non-owners, non overnighters. So I think you have to jump on that as soon as they release them.
