My parents take my kids overnight so DH and I can have a date night.

if I'm lucky I'll get a card with $20 in the same month as my birthday, but its a crap shoot. My mom has always been bad at celebrating her kids though, and now that she's closing in on 80 it's to be expected. I celebrate my birthday my own way--usually take a solo trip somewhere and don't worry about what anyone else does.

My parents live in another country and I moved here after marriage.

Every birthday, I get a call from my parents to wish me a happy birthday. Dad and mom also send me a card etc. Every birthday, all my relatives gather at my parents house to celebrate my birthday (without me). There is dinner and also a cake. Dad blows out the candles, my relatives wish me "Happy Birthday!".

I am a cherished and loved child then and now. My mom and dad are my rock and the best parents any child could have. I love them so much. I have been so blessed with my family of origin and the family I have created with DH too.

A text the night before a milestone birthday. Am happy to get that but surprised there wasn’t a call. They have forgotten before so am happy for some acknowledgement

Today is my birthday and I got a call, happy birthday song (terribly sung but that's even better IMO) and $500 cash.....way over the top and in no way do I expect or need $$$$ but I have a super generous father.

Yes, card, call, ship something thoughtful. Sometimes a flower delivery. It’s great and impressed my kids as well.

It’s called being thoughtful and caring.

My parents text, even though they are local. One time in my early 20s they forgot despite talking to me that week a few times. It was pretty upsetting and was maybe the beginning of my slow realization that they really only care about themselves. I celebrate EVERYTHING with my kids. I want to delight in them and hope to send my kids cards or gifts into adulthood (assuming they want gifts, I don’t want to be the Christmas mug family!)

My parents are not on social security alone and did not limp into retirement. They love to brag about how "rich" they are (All 4 of my grandparents died within the last 10 years, and my parents inherited a lot of money.) They spend about $50,000 year on leisure travel (pre covid, of course.) The $100 they send me is not hurting them.

Moms always gives me a gift. Cake and balloons sometimes either from her and now more recently my sister buys the cake since she started working

my spouse's family never did bdays, holidays or any traditions either. I think the mom was overwhelmed with them all and at doing everything so simply stopped.

My mom lives on the other side of the world. She calls or messages me when my birthday starts there at midnight and then a video call when it's the day her in the US. In between, she'll send those cheesy Whatsapp messages on the family group and then some to me directly. and she has to wish on social media as well. She also changes her DP to whichever kid or grandkid's birthday it is. I roll my eyes, but it's sweet, and I appreciate it all. For the couple of times, we have been able to celebrate together since I moved here, I have my birthday lunch with her and she would cook something special.

They call, send a card (with $50, even though there is no need for that), and post on Facebook.

They always make me feel loved, so of course they acknowledge my birthday. We haven't celebrated together since I was 30, but that's based on our distance apart, and my birthday falling during my kid's school year.
