I grew up Jewish modern orthodox so many of my friends waited, but they also got married at like 21. For the most part, anyone who got married past like 22 was having sex or a short engagement. We weren’t religious like you see on “unorthodox” - more normal than that, just insular.

Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend getting married at 21 or waiting for marriage to have sex.

Yes you are. Frankly I find it bizarre and assume it is religious suppression. Anyone over 22 that is a virgin has some issues, be it major insecurity, social problems, or false religious ideals

I went to Catholic school for 12 years (including an all girls Catholic high school) and don't know anyone that waited til marriage.

I also will not encourage my daughters to wait til marriage, but rather until they feel they are secure in a safe loving relationship and ready.

Only if her husband was experienced! It seems to me like having sex for the first time with somebody experienced is the way to go.

I grew up Mormon so there is the religious aspect for people, and while I don’t believe anymore I do see the general benefit of committing to a set of beliefs. And a benefit that was explained to me is that when you do have sex, you are going to associate all those good feelings with your spouse so it’ll draw you closer. I found out that this is BS because a lot of Mormons eventually feel like they missed out so they swing or live poly lifestyles, even if they doing leave the church (or they just deal and hold a grudge). Certainly not everybody though, I think most are happy with their decision.

I just mention that he’s good in bed because you don’t need experience with people besides your partner. We did talk about sex and what we hoped for, and he’s kind of an alpha, so I had a feeling he wouldn’t disappoint.

I ended up holding out until engagement. It wasn’t the plan but it is what happened. Only one man and we have been married 26 years. I am 56. He was my first boyfriend at a time (late 20’s) when I thought I was never going to be in a romantic relationship.

What do you all consider being a virgin? No penetrative sexual activity at all, or just no PIV sex?
