I gave my first a non-traditional name (not a made-up name, it’s just newer and unusual) and my second a very traditional name. I thought I wouldn’t care, but I do. I would have done it differently if I could do it again.

My siblings have trendier names for the decade they were born (the 70s) and I have a more traditional name.

I maybe would not lump us all together. But in reality, it's does not matter at all. We only all lived in the same house for 12 years! My brother went to college when I was 12, and has lived many many years longer in the same house with his wife than he ever did with me.

Life is long and siblings being seen as unit is not a forever thing.

I think it's weird when they are too matchy-matchy. Re.. twins named Aidan and Addison, or brothers named Jace and Jax. That said, I would also seriously side-eye a Jayden and Virginia sibling set.

In my experience most of the time when names really don't match at all (like Paxley and William) it's because one of them is a Stepkid. The majority of parents give their kids names from the same type of names.

I'm a parent who said it was important to me that my kids' names match.

My kids' names don't match in the sense that they have the same sound or the same meaning, but they do all match in that they all have family names as one of their two names, and a religious name as one of their two names (e.g. one kid has the middle name of Joseph for Grandpa Joe) And their first names are all familiar, classic names. I think many people would hear my kids' names and say they're boring.

But I like a lot of names. I had to narrow down the list somehow.

I did not even think about it when naming my second. Luckily they do sound good together but I wouldn’t have lost sleep over it if they didn’t.

It didn't really matter to me. Both kids were named for certain people and the names I think go OK with each other.

I read an essay years ago on baby naming and the one thing I always remembered was 1) Avoid rhyming names because when you yell for one kid the other shows up (Dan and Ann). But also 2) Don't give kids names that are not quite rhyming but could. She referenced twins in the neighborhood named Dirk and Eric. She said adults would often call them Derek and Eric while the other kids called them Dirk and Erk LOL

One weird thing with my kids' name and my sisters' kids is that our 1st kids both have 2-syllable "J" names and our 2nd kids both have 2-syllable "E" names. They are also all very close in age. Never even thought of it when we were in the baby stage but it is pretty funny now.

It mattered to me but didn’t matter to DH. Our kids sound like they’re from different families. My son has my mother’s maiden name as his first name and daughter has an Indian name (DH is Indian). It’s a beautiful name but I don’t like seeing the names together.

I have no idea why this matters at all. People on the internet seem to think it does, but I don't get it.

This has never crossed my mind, and I am having my 5th. When exactly would you be saying all of their names together? I just made sure they had good meanings and weren't matching. Sure, I've had to say their ages together but never really their names.

Oh, interesting. I think I would go for either one syllable or three syllables for the third child's name. I think both Conner, Archer, Fiona or Connor, Archer, Jane are easier to say. It's more interesting and sounds better to have the third name be more complementary rather than the same.

I think it's fine to have a range unless someone obviously got the worst name. Can you tell us a little more - are the first two names more traditional and you want to have more fun with the third? Are the first two kids' names in some sort of tight theme and there isn't a good third name in that same theme? There are so many names out there that I'm not sure I understand the problem here.

I'm hesitant to share the names b/c I know at least half the people here will hate them but that ship has sailed. I'm not thinking something wildly different for the 3rd, more just the set of 3 don't roll off your tongue together.
