Sucks, but Mitch can and will do whatever he wants. You want any aid, you have to agree with him.
WhT I don’t understand is how P and S are so bad at explaining that to everyday people.
It isn't that they're bad at explaining it to everyday people, it's that the message gets drowned out by the Republican propaganda machine bleating about how Democrats want to shut cities down and kill small businesses that employ patriotic hardworking real Americans.
THIS.
The mainstream media carries water for the GOP and the for the GOP alone. Their messaging is always related, their messaging becomes the narrative. The Democrats are always relegated to some nonsensical position, even as Rep Porter points out that it is one anarchist holding up this whole entire thing. One man with Chinese and Russian money lining his pockets, encouraging him to disrupt and ruin America.
I mean...the GOP is right on this one. I’ve watched them extend full stand-alone unemployment bills and stimulus checks for months.
What did Pelosi do? Turn them down.
$1.8 trillion deal pre-election with every wishlist item. What did Pelosi do? Turn them down.
Everytime an offer is made Pelosi’s grand stance is ‘Its not enough’.
So where are we now? A bill worth a quarter of the initial request, no unemployment or no stimulus, barely any local/state aid. Seriously the Dems had a great hand and just - killed it.
Which proposals did Mitch McConnell say he would support that Nancy Pelosi rejected? Please provide links to substantiate any claims you make about Mitch McConnell expressing support for a particular proposal.
Don't be obtuse. If you were watching the talks you'd know negotiations prior to December 2020 were handled by Pelosi+Schumer representing the Democrats in both House+Senate and Mnuchin+Meadows representing the White House plus GOP House+Senate.
The proposals were all raised by M+M without comment or objection from McConnell.

Shoplifting is up markedly since the pandemic began in the spring and at higher levels than in past economic downturns, according to interviews with more than a dozen retailers, security experts and police departments across the country. But what's distinctive about this trend, experts say, is what's being taken - more staples like bread, pasta and baby formula.

It's not true to say that Congress doesn't care. The Dems care. Mcconnell cares but he also has recently come back to the church of fiscal conservatism. Trump DNGAF about people. He is deliberately throwing a wrench in the works, because he wants to cut unemployment in order to force people back to work, all for his legacy numbers.
If the Dems cared they would have signed a temporary relief bill months ago. Month-after-month bills have been on the table. Nothing was done. Unemployment + stimulus only was also on offer separately from Mnuchin.
And before you say that didn't happen - here's McConnell offering it in October.

There was another Senate vote on September 10th. Same thing happened.

Seems just irresponsible that again they're down to the last hour.
