When my son's apt had them (4 -5 years ago) they quickly went from a few to enough that you'd see several daily. And I did once live somewhere for 6 years where a single cockroach showed p once and no more every again. Makes no sense to me to call exterminators at this point. I've had a bat in the house 3-4 times over 10 years and didn't call them for bats either (and I've been in the attic plenty of times, wasn't keen on checking but it was ok).
I do wonder about food packages.
A young girl in our area died when a rabid bat bit her. She didn't feel the bite and bu the time they realized what it was it was too late. I would address bats in the attic.
