Yet...she wanted Rory to have all the things she had growing up. Her great quest on the show is to ensure Rory goes to a posh prep school and public school is not enough for her precious daughter. She wants Rory to travel to Europe and shge wants Rory to have a prestigious journalism job on TV.

The hypocrisy was astounding.

You're clearly not from NYC. I talk that fast, as does a lot of my family, as do a lot of my friends.

My aunt worked on the show and dished behind the scenes about how Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel couldn't stand each other and weren't very nice to work with. Likewise for Lauren and the guy who played Luke. She said the nice ones were Sally Struthers and Miss Patty. And she said the girl who played April was a sweetheart. That whole plot line, of course, was cooked up by the replacement writers who were brought in to muck everything up so they could eke out another season. Such a shame. If ASP had been allowed to end it on her terms it would have been much better.
Here's what really annoyed me:
- the older I got the more Lorelai's behavior toward her mother seemed less like well-placed rebellion against the excesses of wealth and more like rudeness.
- Doula as a baby name. Geez
Things to love about it:
- Rory is an unapologetic nerd
- Suki is awesome and they NEVER ever mention Melissa McCarthy's weight. It's just irrelevant.
And finally - we wouldn't have Marvelous Mrs. Maisel without this. This is like the little sister to that show, where ASP is allowed to create at full power and creative control with a cinematic budget. A glory to behold. Do all of you who hate fast-talking mind it in Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? How could they?
Them not getting along sounds like a rumor. I read elsewhere that the daughter from Parenthood and Alexis B. have a fake feud over who is the better daughter. That doesn't sound like people who don't get along.
I did hear that Luke IRL and Lorelei IRL had a strained relationship.

Anonymous wrote:The fast talking is so unnatural- especially the fast responding... I think it’s my biggest pet peeve. No one communicates like that, without ever needing to pause for one second to consider what the other person just said.
Anonymous wrote:So for all the people saying they have unrealistic weight/food thing. I disagree.
For one, a blogger went on the GG coffee and take out diet and actually LOST weight. She thought the extra coffee filled her up and she didn't eat as much. You will notice, L&R talk a big game, order a lot, but they don't always eat it. Luke brings them a huge plate of diner food and then they run off. I'm not saying it's ideal...very wasteful....but they often fill up on coffee and pick at the food.
I picture Lorelei chugging coffee all morning and not eating all day, then going home and eating take out...but calorically it works out.
Also, in Rory's case, I ate "like a trucker" growing up my mom would say, and I was struggled to be over 95 pounds. I am just teeny and i had a fast metabolism. Stress makes me lose weight too - my wedding dress hung off me even though I had fittings weeks before - I was eating normally but the excitement, food would just melt off. It does change as you age but Rory was young. There are young girls who can eat a lot and be tiny.

That’s the Sorkin walk and talk. Not that it shouldn’t annoy you, but it’s not an accident
It’s not a Sorkin show. And on actual Sorkin shows, the characters are usually extremely well-educated professionals in very fast-paced, demanding jobs. So it makes more sense, at least, even if it’s still not very true to life.
They also draw from references that few people, other than TV writers I guess, would get. They’ll reference Bjork, the Bronte sisters, and the Bubble boy in the same breath, and the other person will immediately know exactly what they are talking about. It’s absurd.
