I don't understand why you couldn't put it in ponytails or braids. I hope you at least took lots of pictures before cutting it off. It really doesn't grow back quite the same, sadly. As a mom of a teen, I wouldn't recommend creating a precedent that the kid decides on major things about their appearance quite yet. As they get older you can start to ease up, but I definitely still hold the line on on clothing for certain occasions and anything permanent.

No, has nothing to do with covid. She was extremely controlling of me as a child, borderline abusive, however she typically not as critical of her my kids. She cares a lot about what other people think, in an obsessive way.

What? I thought you were going to say she was furious because of Covid risks, but because she wanted your 4 year old to have long hair? WTF??? Does she not know that hair grows back?

My uncle was like this - my cousin was not allowed to cut her hair, like ever except to trim off super split ends. It was past her butt up until the after her parents dropped her off at college, then she chopped it into a cute bob and hasn't looked back!

That's absurd. You were not wrong; there's nothing wrong with little girls having shorter hair (shoulder-length isn't even that short), nor with going along with your daughter's perfectly reasonable preference for a haircut. I would just ignore your mom until she comes around. Don't apologize, don't try to justify or excuse yourself. It's insane to give someone the silent treatment because they gave their kid a haircut you don't like.

My daughter had a pixie until she was old enough to express a preference AND to brush her own hair. When she was seven, she said she wanted to grow her hair long, so now it's down to her shoulders. She also brushes it twice a day and can put it in a ponytail if she wants. But before that, it was styled in a way that looked cute but was also easy to maintain.

Furious? Your mom is acting crazy. It’s none of her business what her granddaughter does with her hair.


Op yes she’s furious because she thinks my DD was too young to decide she wanted to get her hair cut and and I should have just styled it differently if it was bothering her.


I don’t understand... are you allowed to cut boys hair? Are they allowed to have short hair? Your mom is really weird and absolutely out of place
