A godparent and I have two godchildren is literally three days of work in a lifetime.

Of course I was a Bapitism. And I went to party. I have a card, small cross and a savings bond.

Next was Communion I showed up went to party gave another savings bond

Finally confirmation, I was sponsor for one, the other was in a business trip. Gave card small check. Basically watch mass get taking out to lunch.

I do nothing other than that. My kids Have godparents same thing

Really curious about what type of Christianity would require buying stuff for a child. Trying to think of a story when Jesus went shopping and got stuff for people 🤔. OP can you cite something biblical about this for me?

What are his plans for the religious education of your child?

Does he spend time with your DH and your child? If so, that is what it is about!!! I love that my child has a great bond with his godfather. We choose him (non-family member) because it was our hope that our child would have a great male in his life, in addition to his dad, that he could look up to for guidance. Being a godparent has nothing to do with gifts!

OP, I don't know what religion you are, but in the Catholic tradition you can have more than one godparent. So go get someone as an add-on.

As an aside, if I could do godparent choices again, I'd pick the same people for all my kids. That way one wouldn't get extra presents on birthdays and at Christmas from Aunt and Uncle X, while the other kid is ignored by Aunt and Uncle Y.

I'd rather both kids not get gifts than to deal with the kids noticing the differential treatment.

I don't get why some people put so much emphasis on gifts. It's such a chore to get gifts for these kind of people--they expect the moon and you always wonder if they'll ever be satisfied. In my circle, these materialistic parents are usually the ones with the most $$$ too. It just doesn't compute. Or maybe it does--greedy and entitled.

What culture are you in that expected duites of the godparent is to give the baby gold gifts?
