Tom Hanks does a great job narrating The Dutch House FWIW.

If you love family stories, you'll love Commonwealth and The Dutch House.

Terrific escapist family saga of the greatest generation, but you have to be able to roll with the the Forest Gumpian plot contrivances. The mini-series is awful -- Robert Mitchum is the least of it -- what about Ali McGraw, miscast yet again, this time as a brilliant "NY Jewess"?

Anything by Barbara Kingsolver. Seabiscuit and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. I believe she's a local homegirl. Unbroken definitely has hard parts, but it's an interesting, well written book. James Michener books are always good.
