It was meant as an insult. I moved from a city to a small town junior year. Only girl to have short hair. Was frequently called a dyke (I’m not...)

Best style setter! I was always into fashion but I didn't have money to spend on clothes so I just had to be very creative with what I had, what I could make and what I could steal from my parents closets. I did wonders with my dad's ties and my Mom's scarves. I went on to get a degree in apparel design.

Which was not remotely how I thought about myself.

Same, we had a graduating class of 450 and that was considered small. We had a few senior bests but not that many, maybe 10 each for the boys and the girls. They used to have more but someone complained that they got a “bad” one like junkiest car or biggest gossip, so then they were just left with the really positive ones like smartest, best athlete, etc.
