Upper Middle Class income families.
They are considered “rich” and expected by Private colleges to pay full tuition.
But most of the families saved enough for State colleges because high cost of living in cities.
I will say income of 150k-250k.

Not PP, but two years ago my MCPS Blair magnet kid with a 4.8 weighted GPA, a 1600 SAT, and national recognition for a musical instrument got $20K from Pitt, and was not invited to the Honors College.
I would have expected full tuition break.
I think with Covid merit aid will be less generous in the future.
Not anymore. Pitt announced last year that it plans to shift merit money to financial aid. But that was pre-Covid.

"My son attends an OOS flagship" means something like he's at UW-Madison and we live in Virginia.

My child attends a school with a merit aid offer that made his OOS public cost the same as in-state UVA. Nothing to sneeze at, and we are grateful.

It doesn’t change that this offer was a nice one and could make or break the choice for some, even if it didn’t for you. Congrats to OP.

15k a year is not generous. I say pretty weak for those amazing stats. I like Pitt a lot, I did tour two years ago. Pretty much 10k merit says here is a token amount we don’t care if you come, 13-17 is normal merit offer if they are making a good offer, 17k-30k is they love you.
My oldest daughter pissed be off as one school wanted her. But she did not want to go. They gave her 25k a year off and assigned her a personal contact near our house, my wife and I got a steak dinner invitation to talk it over.
My younger daughter oddly Ohio state paid my other daughters airfare and hotel to visit.
Pitt did give us a free lunch and 10k a year. Like a kiss on the cheek at end of date.
Schools are getting cheap, free rides are over. Scam is merit money for OOS is only off tuition the dorms and meal plans are killers
Well, my two kids got free tuition from Pitt but didn't go. But this was a few years ago.
