This is my situation too. Both moderates but I vote Dem but on social issues we are aligned. He didn’t vote for Hilary or Trump. And def is going with Biden this time

DH is a Trumper and I'm a never Trumper. We are struggling because of the difference in world views. He didn't even realize that the Senate adjourned until after the election without passing a relief bill. I'm pretty done with him right now.

Nobody supports “killing babies”. And it that’s what you think the pro-choice movement is about you should educate yourself about it instead of supporting a movement for ignorant reasons and causing tremendous pain and suffering for ignorant reasons.

Nope. I believe all politics are personal. Politics affect everything, whether you see it or not. A person’s politics reflect their values. I could not be married to someone whose values differed significantly from mine. My DH and I have some minor differences or we might vary in the degree to which we care about some things, but we are largely in agreement on almost everything politically.

Depends on i) how important politics is to you, ii) how big the gulf is, and iii) whether you agree on the issues you hold most deeply.

For example, my aunt cares a lot about politics. She's liberal, and my uncle was quite conservative...but he wasn't very vocal about his politics. They also agreed on women's issues, which are the most important to my aunt. They had a great, long marriage before my uncle passed away.

DH and I are similar in a lot of ways, though DH is much less conservative than my uncle was (i.e. our gulf is narrower). If DH were a Trump-supporter, though, I couldn't stay married to him. I'm the DD of immigrants, and our kids are mixed ethnicity. To me, it's very clear that one of the President's highest priorities is keeping people like me out of this country...so I could not be married to someone who supported him.

It's not really black or white, it really depends on the views and how much you're both invested in politics.

Politics is your values, your ethics. No you cannot hide from that, and it will eventually come back to bite you.

This isn't the 1950s in the northern US where both parties were run by college-educated elites and you had genteel disputes over non-major policy differences.

Today, one party wants to tear down democracy for power. If someone's in favor of that, they're a bad person, flat out.

Not every Bush staffer is a Trumper, but some are.
