Every week when my in laws watch our kids for the day they drop them off and drop off dinner. It’s always appreciated.

I cook regularly for my parents and my mother in law. Either they come here for a meal (in the back yard now) or I cook up and bring over meals to them to eat together, usually holiday meals. My kid is a teen now and my parents/in laws are in their seventies and not well, so the care giving has shifted from taking care of the kid to taking care of the elders. It’s rough during Covid.

My MIL use to when we were first married. She doesn't now though. I would think it was a nice gesture however there were insinuations her good little boy as she referred to him was not eating properly.

Pathetic.

Never.

I take that back. My parents brought us carry-out lunch the day we brought DD home from the hospital.

ILs have never, and if anything, expect a full meal and dessert, always at our expense, provided for them whenever they visit.

My mom does it about twice per week now. With the pandemic, she is bored out of her mind so cooking gives her something to do. I also bring her meals once or twice per week, the stuff that it doesn’t make sense to cook for one, but it’s not a big deal for me to make extra.

PP back with another thought...Maybe this is a cultural thing...my family is Southern. DH's family is from a small town in the Midwest

Never, but I don't want them to. (both my parents and my in-laws are 20 min away)

I’m South Asian AMERICAN ... and my mom does this for me.

My parents are nearby and once brought us chinese food takeout when I had our second child. That was nice.

My MIL lives far away (thankfully!) but even if she didn't she would never do anything helpful or considerate. She expects to be waited on and catered to even when she is visiting as I'm recovering from childbirth. I would never invite her over but try to be accommodating to placate DH.

I live far away from my parents, but my mom does this for my sister now during Covid about once per month. My sister works with Covid patients so this is one way they can connect without having physical contact.

We have never had a home cooked meal from family.
Maybe 1-2 times a day for holidays but that is it. Not during births either.

I have an elderly relative who has full time care. The sitters will not cook, but will reheat. I go over once a month and cook and freeze as much food as the freezer will hold and also drop off things I make throughout the week (soup, quiche, pasta).

Only if one or both of us (me/DH) is sick.
