I use the birdbaths year round without the heat. I use the heating only during winter and it is magical. It is the biggest attraction for the wild birds during winter and my patio is like grand central station of birds.

They wait patiently when I change the water at least 2-3 times during the cold winter day because all the splashing results in a lot of water falling out.

Birds need to keep their feathers clean (and fluffy) during winter to survive the cold. Clean feathers allow for better insulation and the way to keep it clean is by bathing.

I bought a bird bath in the spring and then went back and bought another one. I get such joy watching the birds splash in the water. It is soothing for me.

I know this is a revived thread but if you're still reading, can you recommend a heated bird bath? Thanks!

A Fibes “Buddy Rich” SFT snare drum as a late teen. This started my transition from thrash/garage drummer to a more refined chapter. Worked well because I was able to turn drumming into a career that has allowed for me to see the world and play with amazing and groundbreaking pop musicians. There is nothing like playing for a festival crowd of 100,000 people. This snare helped me get there.

1. A no interest loan from my mom when I was going through my divorce that allowed me to stay in my house with a manageable mortgage payment.

2. My uncle was an artist and was unable to make my wedding due to a cancer diagnosis and treatment. He gifted me a lithograph of one of every one of his paintings with personalized explanations of the paintings in the margins. He passed shortly after the wedding.

A knitted baby blanket made by the mother of one of my husband's friends when our 1st daughter was born 25 years ago. I went on and used it for my 2nd and 3rd daughters as well. It will eventually be passed down and used for any granddaughters we may have in the family.

I’ve wanted a bonsai for years but first didn’t have outdoor space and later it felt hard to justify the expense when I thought I might end up killing it. My friend just gave me one for my bday!

My all time best gift was my cat. He was a stray kitten that wandered onto my parents' place and they brought him inside and cared for him and took him to the vet to get his shots. It was extravagant, but they also paid my apartment's pet security deposit which was equal to a month of rent. They knew how much I wanted to have a cat of my own and he was the sweetest animal ever, and it meant so much to me that they cared and understood. They did ok, but were not wealthy, so the $ was significant, especially because at the time I wasn't able to afford it myself.

The best gift I ever received was $25k from one of my aunts when I was 29 years old with a toddler and my husband was killed by a drunk driver. Having those extra funds as our household income suddenly dropped by more than half while dealing overwhelming grief, trying to hold on to my job and continue to pay our regular bills, being strong for our child, dealing with all the logistics of hospital bills, life insurance, my husband’s outstanding med school loans, etc...it was such a weight off to know I had this extra cushion as I tried to carry on and sort everything out.

A woodpecker bird feeder with attractive suet. OMG...love to watch the beautiful woodpeckers and other birds feed.
Also, a feeder that attracts cardinals. Love that, too.
