if there are violent protests, will not be during election, it will be post if Trump and republicans try to steal the election, which they absolutely will. Republicans have already started placing unofficial ballot boxes in CAlifornia in attempt to 'collect' ballots that will most certainly disappear at some point.

As all elections in USA, it will be a complete disaster, be confusing, questions will come up, courts will get involved. Not sure why we can't run an election to save our lives. Maybe it is because we are still a third world country...

Riots are the language of the unheard.

Support systemic racism? You get riots.
Support the systematic destruction of democracy? What do you think will happen...

I'm surprised by the replies but I'll take them!

The consensus on our block/in our neighborhood is that people are mildly concerned. I know a bunch of folks with plans to leave town and others are discussing it.

I was wondering what the broader group-think is. Glad to know that we are overreacting.

You are over reacting and making stuff up too - I have not heard a single person bring this up and I've had lots of conversations with people about the upcoming election - do you think tanks and rioters are going to roll into DC late on election night?

I think if Trump wins there will be massive rioting. Then the militias and other misc wackos will roll in. DC could start to look like Syria pretty fast. Everyone I know is leaving. Bunch of clueless posters on here . . .

We did leave town last inauguration and might consider doing that again, depending on how things are looking with covid, weather, politics, etc. We live less than a mile from the Mall.

Exactly! I don’t worry about guns in The District because there are strict laws

Except there are a bunch of guns and 2A assholes right over the river.

The looting and rioting and fires after MLK died in the 60's destroyed block after block after block. Dad was downtown taking a CPA
cram course. He managed to get back home to Bowie after the rioting, fires and looting started but it was dangerous.
The areas that were destroyed did not recover for 30 years.

So much pain.

It will just as painful if we are forced to live with 4 more years of the GOP destroying democracy.

If you don’t understand why people protest then maybe you should sit down and listen.

Nothing in Spring Valley was looted. The window to CVS was smashed, and that's technically AU park.

Um no, CVS was totally looted (not just their window) and businesses up and down MacArthur were looted.

The looting in Spring Valley was pretty modest and there are no visible remnants of it today.

Ummm I live in Friendship Heights and have biked down to Georgetown twice in the last month and have no idea what you are talking about.

No stores in Friendship Heights have been abandoned - there are several empty storefronts almost all of which predated Covid/George Floyd and there are a couple of businesses which left the plywood up for whatever reason but for the most part the neighborhood retail is struggling just like it was 8 months ago.

This is why OP isn’t crazy. If Trump wins, can you imagine what “protesters” will do!

The same white supremacists and militia members that have been responsible for all the destruction in DC this summer (by pretending to BLM allies) are still around, and there is absolutely no reason to think that they won’t destroy, burn and loot again, if the opportunity presents. Any chance white supremacists have to tarnish the cause of peaceful protests for civil rights, they will. So yes I expect there to be more trouble from white racists when drumpff loses.

Yeah. The Trumpets think they’re going to win the election. They’re going to be home on 11/3. The real danger will be in January when they’ve had nearly 3 months to plan their attack on the Capital.
